Online Tutoring

Online Tutoring Overview

In an effort to provide services to student populations with limited physical access to the Learning Enhancement Center, the center offers an asynchronous online tutoring program. Online tutoring can be done for writing or PowerPoint projects from any discipline, and its use is currently restricted to the following student populations:

  • La Verne Online students;
  • CAPA students;
  • Regional Campus location (RCA) students;
  • Students in off-campus programs;
  • Military installation students;
  • and Graduate students.

How Online Tutoring Works

  1. Call the Learning Enhancement Center main desk at (909) 593-3511, ext. 4342 to book your online tutoring appointment. The LEC desk is open to book appointments Monday-Thursday, 8am-10pm; Friday, 8am-5pm; Saturday, 10am-3pm; and Sunday, 1pm-9pm (except holiday and campus closures). Be sure to specify you require online tutoring (not face-to-face). You cannot book appointments online.
  2. After booking your appointment, you should receive an appointment confirmation from our automated scheduler. Please review the confirmation email to ensure you are scheduled for the correct day and time. Online appointments are designated by an “OWRT” category code.
  3. Be sure to read “On Being Tutored:Student Information and Responsibilities prior to engaging with the tutor. While some of these may not apply to online tutoring situations, you should read through them carefully so you understand what is expected of you, and what you can expect from your tutor.
  4. Use the following online form to submit your work: Submit Online Work for Tutor. It is preferable for you to submit your assignment in a word document.  Assignments submitted in alternative formats may not be accessible by tutors and may cause a delay in the reviewing of your submission..
  5. Within 24 hours of your scheduled appointment time, you will receive an email from the tutor with his/her suggestions. Please note: the Learning Enhancement Center is not an editing service; it subscribes to a tutoring philosophy that supports the students’ engagement with and active participation in their own learning. As such, your writing tutor will not “fix” the entire document, but will point you to common error patterns along with suggestions for how to address them along with general feedback regarding organization, structure, sentence structure, content, logic, argument/thesis, use of scholarly evidence, etc.
  6. A ten page limit per appointment applies. If your writing project is greater than ten pages in length, you should schedule multiple sessions with an online tutor to allow adequate time.
Note: Please adhere to these guidelines. Any deviation from these instructions could result in a delay of your assignment review. The Learning Enhancement Center is not responsible for projects submitted incorrectly.
