Dear Community Partners,
On behalf of the Office of Civic & Community Engagement, you are invited to participate in our annual First-Year La Verne Experience (FLEX) & New Student Community Engagement Day on Saturday, August 26, 2017! On this day, we will be welcoming our new incoming first-year students, transfer students, & first-year law students to participate in a day of service at various community organization sites. We’d love for you to host a group of our students on this day! We are looking for community partners who can commit to hosting a group of 25 students or more from approximately 9:00am-1:00 pm and coordinating a service project for them. We will provide our students with transportation to and from site, lunch, and water.
Once you have completed the registration form below, you will receive a follow-up email with more details pertaining to the day.
We appreciate your help in making this signature event a great learning experience!
Please make note of the following information as you make plans for this day:
□ 9:00-9:30 AM – Anticipated arrival time of students to community sites
□ 9:30 AM – Please have a representative from your organization ready to welcome the volunteers. Please provide an orientation with information about your organization; including the mission, history, and whom the organization serves. Also, please give instructions for the tasks/activities of the day, and explain the impact this service will have on the organization.
□ 9:35 AM-12:30 PM – Time allocated for service to take place
□ 12:30 PM-1:00 PM – Break for lunch and reflection (the reflection will be facilitated by a ULV staff or faculty member)
□ 1:00 PM- 1:30 PM – Volunteers will prepare to pack up
□ 1:30 PM – Anticipated departure time from sites back to campus
Things to Keep in Mind
o If students will be working outside, please allow time for water breaks and encourage them to stay hydrated
o Students must have a lunch break. They will be bringing lunches. Please allow 30-45 minutes for a lunch break
o Some groups may choose to do reflection during or after lunch. You are welcome to join the reflection
o In case of an emergency, or if your group does not arrive on time, please call the emergency number listed above
o We want to encourage our students to learn the importance of building community and giving service
